We started our farming business, Simeon Morgan Farming Ltd, nearly 20 years ago and we now farm 2300 acres of predominantly arable crops on a variety of agreements. The sheep were introduced 8 years ago, initially as a hobby, but now form part of an important “grazing management” plan on the new countryside stewardship areas introduced at Keyhaven. Our pedigree Zwartbles sheep are a large breed with a striking appearance. They make good mothers and produce a big lean lamb that is a little slower to mature. We have also introduced some commercial ewes who by crossing with a Zwartbles ram produce lambs that mature earlier, thus extending the supply of lamb into the shop to 10 months of the year. The lambs spend their days grazing in our unique environment, the sea air and rich herby pasture gives the meat a distinct, delicious flavour, which is why our “Keyhaven” lamb is such a special product.
We purchase locally reared beef and pigs from trusted producers where animal welfare is a priority. We believe it is imperative for meat quality that the animals remain unstressed and are handled as little as possible. Carcasses are hung in a controlled chilled environment before being cut and packed on site by an award winning butcher. This is all available on our butchers counter on ‘pop up’ open days.
Our criteria for stock is simple; it must be local, delicious, beautiful and good value for money. What we don’t want is just another farm shop; we want it to be special. Not only a place where you can buy some fantastic seasonal local produce but also somewhere the community can visit, learn about the countryside, food production and to interact with us, the local farmers.
We regularly host visits and open days on the farms.
